Accelerator Program for Social start-ups @ IIIT Hyderabad

There are many start-ups that are  into solving real problems and  working for  a cause whether its related to the community, environment  or any other challenges related to society. The venture capital community is also beginning to see the importance of start-ups (Google Ventures which is putting its  focus more on health care and life-sciences companies and Y Combinator, the most powerful start-up accelerator in the world, backing seven nonprofits in its latest class etc.) working for a social cause.
 
Recognising the need to promote social start-ups the International Institute of Information Technology-Hyderbad (IIIT-Hyderabad) has announced an accelerator program specifically for social –tech start-ups. The institute has collaborated with Surge Impact Foundation to run the three-month-long accelerator program. 
 
Surge Impact Foundation is an accelerator set-up to resolve the fundamental issues in social enterprise start-up eco-system in India by identifying the next generation of high-impact founders, fulfilling the missing ‘content’ in the eco-system support centres and creating the most valuable network of top expert mentors and angel investors in the country. 

Program Details
  • The social start-ups would get an opportunity to work with research scholars and professors to solve problems that they encounter as they build their products and services.
  • The programme will give entrepreneurs an overview of the important aspects of building and running a social enterprise. The start-ups will be guided through leadership, business management, peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and technology implementation for social good.
  • The programme is open to tech-based Indian start-ups that have been working on their enterprises for less than a year on social or environmental challenges, Social Enterprise ,Corporate Social Responsibility ,Environmental Impact Assessment  and Social Entrepreneurship in the country but which will find application anywhere in the world.
  • At the end of the programme, start-ups could get seed funding opportunities between Rs. 50,000-Rs 1 lakh.(Source:thehindubusinessline)
